Professional Baseball Player. Born Robert Dennis Doyle, he was an undrafted 2nd baseman that for 8 seasons played for the Philadelphia Phillies (1970 to 1973), California Angels (1974 to 1975) and the Boston Red Sox (1975 to 1977). He made his major league debut on April 7, 1970. Before then, he played in the Phillies' farm system with the Class A Spartanburg Phillies in 1966 before advancing to the Triple-A level, Eugene Emeralds in 1969. After joining the major league, he remained with the Phillies through 446 games. In 1973 he was part of a multi-player trade deal with the Angles where he played in 155 games. After being traded to the Boston Red Sox in 1975 he batted a career high batting average of .310 in 89 games. He only made 2 postseason appearances, both in 1975. The first was in the American League Championship Series, which the Red Sox won and the 1975 World Series that the Cincinnati Reds won 4 out of 7 games. In his 8 year major league career he posted a batting average of .250, 16 homeruns and batted in 237 runs all in 944 games. He had 2 brothers that also played in the major league, Brian Doyle and Blake Doyle. After retiring, he and his brothers co-founded Doyle Baseball Camps in 1978.
