Actress. Born Betty Jean Striegler, she enrolled at a theatre school and learned to sing and dance by the age of seven years old. At the age of ten, she made her motion picture debut with a minor role in the James Stewart and Marlene Dietrich picture "Destry Rides Again" (1939), prior to finishing her schooling. She was cast as 'Liat' in the long-running, Tony Award-associated Broadway production "South Pacific" (1949 to 1954) and during the 1950s, she was elevated to roles of substance in the films "The Robe" (1953), "Dream Wife" (1953), "The Naked Dawn" (1955), "Tarzan and the Lost Safari" (1957) and "Tarzan the Magnificent" (1960). She will perhaps be remembered for appearing opposite Christopher Lee in the horror pictures "Corridors of Blood" (1958) and "City of the Dead" (1960). She retired from the entertainment industry during the 1960s. She was married to stage actor Peter Grant.
