Motion Picture, Television Program Producer. Graduating from Dartmouth College in 1930, he initially pursued a career in advertising before joining RKO Pictures as a story editor in 1940. During World War II he served in the United States Navy making documentary films. In 1948 he formed his own production company with Howard Hughes, which turned out low-budget feature films. His 30 year career included works on several films in the late 1940s and 1950s, including most notably 'Act of Violence' (1948), 'Outrage' (1950) and 'The Hitch-Hiker' (1953), both the latter directed by his wife Ida Lupino. Collier and Lupino were married in 1948 and divorced in 1951. After their divorce, he was the executive director of Lupino's CBS sitcom 'Mr. Adams and Eve', which co-starred her new husband Howard Duff. The series ran from 1957-1958. He was married to actress Joan Fontaine from 1952 to 1961, that marriage also ending in divorce. He became a television producer in the late 1950s, working on shows such as the supernatural series 'One Step Beyond (1959-1961), the campy, offbeat western 'The Wild, Wild West (1965-1969) and the detective crime drama 'Ironside' (1967-1975). He died at age 72 of injuries received in a road accident, on Christmas Day, 1980 in Los Angeles, California.
