Death removed one of the most highly respected citizens of Moulton township Sunday morning, May 7, in the person of Frederick William Katter who has resided for several years a short distance north of Moulton. Mr. Katter became afflicted some time ago with what was thought to be poison ivy but which later was diagnosed by a physician as erysipelas of a most malignant type. The affliction rapidly increased in virulency and caused his death at 5:30 Sunday morning.
The deceased was a native of Germany but came to America when he was eighteen years of age, settling in New Knoxville. He lived in this village for several years and then moved to a farm north of Moulton which has been his home ever since.
He was a member of the Reformed church at New Knoxville, and was a prominent citizen in the community. He was regarded by his neighbors as a man of excellent character, a kind father and in every way a citizen of the highest type.
In early life he was married to Mary Katterheinrich who preceded him in death. He is survived by William and Louis Katter at home; Benj. Katter, two miles east of Moulton, Mrs. Caroline Engel, at home. Two daughters and one son are deceased. He also leaves a sister Mrs. Harmeyer, living south of New Knoxville, and one brother Adolf Katter, a citizen of Germany.
The funeral took place Wednesday, May 10th, from St. Paul's church in St. Marys conducted by Rev. F. H. Rupnow, of St. Marys and Rev. Kunst of New Knoxville. Interment in Elmgrove cemetery. Auglaize Republican 5-11-19
