Everett was the second child of William Curtis "Will" and Gertrude (Hershberger) Messner. His brother, William Curtis Messner, was 7 years older and his half sister, Cleopatra Viola "Cleo" Messner, was 15 years older. The greater part of his life was spent in Potomac, IL where he was highly respected and had a great many friends. He was in Addison, Michigan visiting his brother when he became ill. He passed away at the Addison Community Hospital at 11 am on Saturday, Oct. 20 of Typhoid Fever after an illness of 6 weeks.

Funeral services were held in Methodist Church in Potomac, IL after which he was interred at Monticello, IL next to his mother who had died in 1914. (Bio by K. Gregg Prillaman)
