Another Soldier Gone.
Elder John C. Fisher, a soldier in the war for the union, is dead at his home on the east side, following a short illness.
His funeral will be Sunday afternoon at two o'clock, at the home, with burial in the family lot at Greenwood Cemetery.
Mr. Fisher was born in Bleadon, Somersetshire, England, seventy-two years ago.
He came to the United States at eleven years of age and located in Michigan.
When President Lincoln sent out his call for volunteers to save the union, Elder Fisher, then only a boy of sixteen, enlisted in Company A of the Eighteenth Michigan Infantry, and on many of the bloodiest battlefields of the Civil War he earned his citizenship and proved his loyalty to his adopted country.
Early in life Mr. Fisher became a member of the Church of the Living God, and for many years was a minister of that denomination, and active in its work along evangelistic lines.
Mr. and Mrs. Fisher came to LaGrange in 1892, after several years in Chicago and Lansing, Michigan, and had since made their home here.
Elder Fisher had many friends in LaGrange County, being an enthusiastic and tireless worker in movements, which interested and appealed to him, and especially among the old soldiers, his comrades in the great war, will his death be mourned.
