Catherine M. Sextro, 98, of Seneca, Kansas, died Friday, June 15, 2001, at Crestview Manor in Seneca.
She was born December 3, 1902, in Rosemount, Iowa, the daughter of John and Anna Schurman Heinen. The family moved to Kelly, Kansas, where she attended school.
On October 17, 1923, she married Henry Sextro at St. Bede's Church, Kelly. They lived in Seneca two years and farmed near Baileyville from 1923 to 1948. After five years in the Beattie area, they moved to Muscotah, Kansas, where they farmed for 23 years. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1973. In April of 1976, they moved to Seneca. Her husband Henry died October 7, 1977. She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Helen, on July 4, 1928, a son Kenneth Sextro on July 5, 1976, a granddaughter, Carol Ann Phillips on
February 12, 2001, and a great granddaughter, Stephanie Ann Huerter on March 2, 1996.
She was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Church at Seneca and St. Ann's Altar Society at the church. She was a former member of Sacred Heart Church at Baileyville.
Survivors are three sons; Lillis Sextro of Kent, Washington, Glen Sextro of Olathe, Kansas, Larry Sextro of Horton, Kansas; two daughters, Evelyn Ronnebaum of Seneca and Mary Jane Koch of Sabetha, Kansas; a brother, Raymond Heinen of Goff, Kansas; two sisters, Susanna Huerter of Seneca and Marie Conley of Centralia; 22 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
The mass of Christian burial will be 2 P.M. Saturday, June 11, at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. The burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery at Baileyville.
