Lucy Ann Mertens, 100, formerly of 110 E. Arndt St., died Thursday, April 5, 2007, at All About Life Rehabilitation Center.
She was born Jan. 6, 1907, in Mount Calvary, the daughter of Mathias and Anna Bleuel Abler.
On April 16, 1936, she married Ernest J. Mertens in Mount Calvary. He preceded her in death on Aug. 28, 1991.
Mrs. Mertens was a seamstress and dressmaker for many years. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, nature, reading, and her family. One of her greatest loves was chocolate. She was always a gracious hostess for all members of her family.
Surviving are three daughters, Marcia Hletko of Eagle River, Geraldine (William) Nimmer of Fond du Lac, and Camilla (Elroy) Kandler of Colgate; two sons, Dennis Mertens and Alex (Pearl) Mertens, both of Fond du Lac; 17 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandsons; three sisters, Cordula Wagner and Genevieve Abler, both of Fond du Lac, and Patricia Abler of Wauwatosa; and a sister-in-law, Lucille Huber of Racine.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; seven brothers, Herbert, Norman, Harold, Ralph, Ambrose, Alex, and Lawrence Abler; a sister, Camilla Casper; a son-in-law, Bernard Hletko; a daughter-in-law, Karen Mertens; five brothers-in-law, Herman Schmitz, Alfred Mertens, Vincent Weyrich, William Huber, and Edmund Wagner; and four sisters-in-law, Marion Weyrich, Eleanor Schmitz, Evelyn Mertens, and Orlene Mertens.
Visitation: Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, April 9, 2007, at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home and from 9 to 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 10, 2007, at Sacred Heart Church.
Services: Liturgy of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at Sacred Heart. The Rev. Victor Capriolo will officiate and burial will be at St. John's Parish Cemetery in Johnsburg.
