Eugene H. Bemis, age 75, died early Monday morning at the York general hospital, after a short illness. He was hospitalized Sunday afternoon. Death came because of a heart ailment.

He was born in Sutton on July 4, 1880, and had been engaged in newspaper work for a half century. His most famous contribution to the York county (sic) newspaper scene was his column, "The Squawker," in which he commented without "fear or favor."

His parents were Mr. and Mrs. George W. Bemis, who left Sutton for York sixty-seven years ago. Perhaps not many people knew Mr. Bemis or remember his parents, but he was a useful citizen of York and York county (sic).

Funeral services were held this Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. He was buried in Greenwood cemetery (sic), York.

Survivors are his wife, Kate Houston Bemis; one sister, Mrs. O. G. Palmer, of York; a brother, Wendell P. Bemis of Long Beach, Calif., and several nieces and nephews.

He was a member of the Presbyterian church; an ardent Rotarian; a Knights of Pythias, York Chamber of Commerce, and the YMCA.

Son of George W. & Ada (Gray) Bemis.
