Hall of Fame Major League Baseball Player. Born in Hamilton, Missouri, he was nicknamed "Buck", was an outfielder noted as the model of consistency and still holds the Dodger franchise records for career hits, doubles, triples and total bases. He made his debut with then the Brooklyn Superbas, later Robins, then Dodgers on September 11, 1909. For nineteen seasons, he played with the Dodgers (1909-26) and Philadelphia A's in 1927. Over the coarse of his career he collected 200 hits three times and batted over .350 three consecutive years. He also batted .300 or better 13 times and led Brooklyn to its first two World Series appearances in 1916 and 1920. He left baseball with a record of 2884 hits, 1289 runs scored, 132 homeruns, 608 runs bated in and a .317 batting average. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1959 and died at age 83 in Sedalia, Missouri.
