ESTELLINE – Lewis Peter Mennenga, 86, Estelline, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, at an Estelline care center.
Funeral services will be Monday, Feb. 26, at 10:30 a.m. in the United Church of Christ in Estelline with the Rev. Don Davis officiating.
Burial will be in the Dempster Cemetery.
Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Geise funeral Home in Estelline and Monday at the church prior to the services.
Lewis Mennenga, son of Peter and Katie (Ruter) Mennenga, was born Feb. 10, 1915, on a farm near Dempster. He spent his early years in Hamlin County and received his education at Cozy Cottage School. Following his father's death he farmed and took care of his mother and sisters.
He married Annie Poppen Nov. 3, 1940, at Lake Benton, Minn. They farmed the family farm and later moved to another farm in Hamlin County. They retired and moved into Estelline in 1977. He entered the Estelline Nursing and Care Center January 1996.
He was a member of the Dempster Reformed Church of Christ in Estelline. He enjoyed fishing and gardening.
Survivors include his wife; two sons and a daughter-in-law, LaVerne and Linda of Castlewood and Dade and friend Tonya of Westfield, Wis.; four daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Edward VanDykhorst of Estelline, Marilyn and Roger Greenfield and Bonnie and William Henrichsen, all of Castlewood, and Louann and David Dahl of Brandt; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a sister-in-law, Georgiana and husband Hugh Ching of Castlewood.
