"Cordie" Whiteside was married to Albert Samuel Bridgewater. They were residents of Buncombe Co., North Carolina in 1900. A daughter, Florence F. Bridgewater, was born in November 1899 and died prior to 1910.

The couple lived near Hanceville, Cullman Co., Alabama, from 1909 to 1917 [1918], where he farmed. It is believed that Cordie produced the words to a hymn "How Beautiful Heaven Must Be" during this time. The Bridgewaters left Hanceville around 1918.

They returned to Buncombe Co., North Carolina, where Cordelia and Albert died from the flu within weeks of each other.

Additional information provided by Janice Black From archives of Flat Creek Baptist Church:

We the members of FLAT CREEK BAPTIST CHURCH can pay our tribute to the life of MRS. A. S. BRIDGEWATER and can register our gratitude to God for giving the world such a splendid example of Christian character but we can not measure her influence.

She was a member of this church for about 6 years and was never able to attend regularly but was always interested in the work of the church, supporting it with her tithe.

She used her great knowledge of the Bible and her talent as a teacher. She especially stood firm on her convictions on reverence in the church.

Hers was a refined gentle spirit - modest and unassuming .

She went home on May 27, 1939 at the age of 65 years to really experience for herself the beauties of Heaven.

Her body was laid to rest beside that of her husband, her only near relation, who preceded her going about one month- in WEST MEMORIAL CEMETERY of WEAVERVILLE , the lot being a gift of MR. GLEN WEST.

Many times during her illness she was inspired to write . Perhaps her master piece is that Poem which has been set to music and recorded and which she was privileged to hear sung many times on records and over the air - "How Beautiful Heaven Must Be"
