Isaac H Davis married Ann Alexander Downey on October 1, 1853 in Granville Co, North Carolina. Based on Census records and his obituary, Isaac & Ann had a total of nine children, six of which were alive at the time of Isaac's death in 1884. They were:

Although in his mid-forties, he was concscripted into the Confederate military and was detailed to act as one of the Advisory Board in the Conscript Service for Granville County, NC. On June 19, 1865 he petitioned Andrew Johnson, President of the United States, for a pardon for that service and vowed to take an Oath of Allegence to the United States of America.

He was a farmer and a leader in the Goodwyn and Spew Marrow Agriculture Clubs in Granville County. According to his obituary in the 'Oxford Torch Light' February 5, 1884, he processed large quantites of real estate in Granville and adjoining counties, and helped many of his friends and neighbors at times when backing was needed and hazardous. The obituary states: 'He was a liberal, public spirited citizen and had but few equals among the prominent men of the area. A long life of fair dealing, liberality and valuable usefulness has been ended.'

The face of the momument lists Isaac Hiliard Davis and wife Anne Alexander [Downey] Davis. They are buried directly in front of the monument based on the footstones. The left side of the monument lists three of their children who died very young. The right side of the monument lists a son. Graves for the four listed children are at other locations within the cemetery. In addition, there are at least two other children, Mary Davis Gregory & Alexander Smith Davis, who are not listed on the monument but are buried at other locations in the cemetery.
