Sally was the second child of Alexander & Anna Beasley Smith and their only child to live to adulthood.

Sally married her first cousin, Samuel Smith Downey (1792-1851), on June 17, 1829 in Granville Co, NC. He was the son of James & Elizabeth Smith Downey. Sally was Samuel's second wife.

Sally and Samuel had one child, Anne Alexander Downey [Davis].

Sally died at age 17.
