Hall of Fame Major League Baseball Team Owner. He owned the Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers Major League baseball team from 1950 to 1979, and was responsible from moving the team from New York City, New York to Los Angeles, California in 1958. Despite being vilified for the move, his actions opened up the West Coast of the United States to major league franchises. In 2008, he was posthumously inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame via the Veterans Committee.
