.....The next sad tidings was that of the death of Mr. J. H. Thamann on the 28th ult. Mr. T. had a stoke of paralysis a short time since, from which he never recovered. Deceased was an old and highly esteemed resident of this place, having lived here since 1851. He was about 55 years of age, and leaves a wife and several daughters to mourn the loss of a husband and father. His funeral occurred on the 2d inst., and was largely attended.

Mrs. Elizabeth Clara Thamann, a resident of Guttenberg for more than half a century, died from cancer of the breast at the home of her son-in-law and daughter Mr. and Mrs. Ben Schute, Tuesday afternoon, February 5th, 1907, at the age of seventy-three years and three days.
Elizabeth Clara Haelscher was born in Assengerg, Westphalen, Muenster, Germany, February 2, 1834 and came to America with her parents in 1841. She was married to J. H. Thamann, a carpenter by trade, November 22, 1853 at St. John, Ohio, and came to Guttenberg with her husband the same year. For a number of years previous to his death about thirty years ago, Mr. Thamann owned and conducted the Jefferson House, now the Commercial Hotel, which he had built. Mrs. Thamann was a true Christian woman, a member of St. Anna Society of St. Mary's congregation and a kind and loving mother leaving a memory that will ever be cherished by her children and friends. She is survived by six daughters, namely: Mrs. Lizzie Reinhardt, Burlington; Mrs. Anna Rump, Peoria, Ill.; Mrs. Francis Mueller, Dubuque; Mrs. Mary Kirch, Mrs. Augusta Pfiffner and Mrs. Mathilda Shute, of Guttenberg.
Funeral services will be held at St. Mary's church this (Friday) morning at 9:30, conducted by Rev. J. H. Brinkman. Interment in the new Catholic cemetery.

Funeral Will Take Place This Morning at 9:30 o'Clock With Services at St. Mary's Church.
Mrs. Elizabeth Clara Thamann, one of Guttenberg's old and respected residents, passed away Tuesday afternoon at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Schute, with whom she resided a number of years. Death was caused from cancer of the breast, from which she has long been a sufferer. Her age at the time of death was 73 years and 3 days, having passed her 73rd birthday last Saturday. On account of her ailment Mrs. Thamann became bedfast Dec. 9th, and since then had been unable to leave her room.
Deceased was born at Assanberg, West Phalen, Muenster, Germany, Feb. 2, 1834. She came to America in 1841 with her parents, who settled at Ohio. She was married in Cincinnati to J. H. Thamann November 22, 1853, and the same year with her husband, came west and settled in Guttenberg. Mr. Thamann was a carpenter by trade and followed the occupation after coming here. He erected the building known as the Commercial Hotel, now owned by Geo. Friedlein, and also the frame sample room adjoining the hotel building. Mr. and Mrs. Thamann conducted a hotel in the first named building for a number of years, or until the former's death some thirty years ago.
The surviving members of the family are are six daughters, namely: Mrs. Lizzie Reinhardt, Burlington; Mrs. Annie Rump, Peoria; Mrs. Francis Mueller, Dubuque; Mrs. Mary Kirch, Mrs. Augusta Pfiffner and Mrs. Mathilda Schute, Guttenberg.
Deceased was a member of St. Anna Society of St. Mary's congregation and had been a devout and life long adherent to the Catholic faith. Funeral services will be held this (Friday) morning at St. Mary's church at 9:30 conducted by Rev. Father Brinkman. Interment will be made in the new Catholic cemetery.

Word has been received here by friends of the death of Mrs. Adam DePrez, a former resident of Guttenberg, on January 24, at Hillsboro, Wis.
Mrs. DePrez, the former Mathilda Thamann, daughter of Jacob and Clara Thamann, was born in Guttenberg on November 17, 1867, where she resided for forty-nine years.
On May 26, 1891, she was married to Bernard Schute, who passed away on April 2, 1915. In 1916 she went to Hillsboro, Wis. to make her home with her older daughter, Clara Schute, R. N. On November 23, 1925, she was married to Adam DePrez of that city.
Mrs. DePrez is survived by her husband and two daughters, Clara Schute of Hillsboro, Wis., and Florence, Mrs. Elmer Buchanan of Seattle, Wash.
