Urania was born 20 November 1820, in Gill, Massachusetts and she was the daughter of Ira Stoughton (1794-1870) and Urania Barrett Richards (1794-1870). She married Benjamin Davis Bailey, a widower, of Providence, Rhode Island, on 10 June 1847 and she died 25 March 1882. Benjamin was born in Rhode Island, in Feb. 1819 and died July 14, 1904, still living in Providence and he was still a Druggist, by trade, which he had done for most of his life. Benjamin was possibly the father of Martin Baily and Dolly Baily. (Vital Records of Gill, Mass.) and thereby extension the mother would have been Urania.

Urania was the author of a good number of hymns, two of which were entitled: "The Mistakes of My Life" and "I know I'm weak and Sinful It Comes."
