From the book They Shall Grow Not Old. page 509:
McMullen William Stuart P/O(P) J 90038. From Toronto, Ontario, Killed Jan 13/45 age 33. # 428 Ghost Squadron (Usque Ad Finem). The crew of Lancaster aircraft #KB 793 were returning from a cross-country training flight to Middleton St. George when the port outer engine caught fire. The fire could not be extinguished and the propeller could not be feathered so P/O McMullen ordered his crew to bail out and he remained at the controls of the aircraft and guided it away from the town of Darlington, County Durham, England. The aircraft with P/O McMullen still at the controls, crashed just outside the town. The Borough of Darlington honoured him by erecting a cairn and naming McMullen Road after him.
Pilot Officer Pilot McMullen is buried in the Stonefall Cemetery, Wetherby Road, Harrogate, Yorkshire, England.
To this day, an annual remembrance service is held in McMullen Road, near the location of the crash. On 13th January 2020 (the 75th anniversary of his heroic death), the mayor and the Member of Parliament for Darlington attended.

Grabstätten-Details
There is some debate as to William's age, depending on the source he was aged either 29 or 33. It's thought he gave his age as younger upon enlisting in the air force as he was too old for pilot training.
