Major League Baseball Player, Coach. Born Calvin Coolidge Julius Caesar Tuskahoma McLish, for fifteen seasons (1944, 1946 to 1949, 1951, 1956 to 1964), he was a pitcher with the Brooklyn Dodgers, Pittsburgh Pirates, Chicago Cubs, Cleveland Indians, Cincinnati Reds, Chicago White Sox and Philadelphia Phillies. Raised in Oklahoma City, where he attended Central High School, he signed as an amateur free agent by the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1944 He made his Major League debut at age 19 with them on May 13th of that year, and pitched in 23 games that season, posting a 3 win 10 loss record. His career was interrupted while he served in the European Theater with the US Army during World War II. Upon resuming, he made sporadic Major League appearances from 1946 to 1948, and beginning in 1949 what would be a successful period pitching in the Pacific Coast League with Los Angeles and San Diego. In 1956 McLish returned to the Majors, and produced five double-digit win years (1958 to 1959, 1961 to 1963), including 19 victories with Cleveland in 1959, as he earned American League All-Star status that year. In 352 regular season MLB games, he compiled a 92 win 92 loss record, with a 4.01 lifetime ERA, in 1,609 innings pitched. Following his playing career, McLish served as a coach for 16 seasons with the Phillies (1965 to 1966), Montreal Expos (1969 to 1975) and Milwaukee Brewers (1976 to 1982). He served under Gene Mauch during Montreal's debut season of 1969, and was on Harvey Kuenn's staff when Milwaukee won the American League Pennant in 1982. He also served as a Major League scout. He was inducted into the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame in 2009.
