Hall of Fame Negro League Baseball Player. He played for the Detroit Stars of the Negro National League. It is believed he led the league in homers six times. During his nine years with Detroit he hit at least 140 home runs in 585 games. He spent his winters ironically, at an auto body shop owned by Tigers owner Walter Briggs, for whose team he would never be allowed to play. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2000.
