DAMAGE SUIT GROWS OUT OF PASTOR'S DEATH
A suit for $10,000 damages was filed in circuit court today by Maria J. Chord, administratrix of the estate of the late Spencer H. Chord, against Melvin N. Wooden, Loretta Wooden and Connie Wooden of near Stinesville.
The complaint which was filed by Vernon and Vernon of Martinsville sets forth that on November 3, 1929, the Rev. Mr. Chord was walking along the road near the Arlington School House when he was struck by a Ford car driven by Melvin Wooden and owned by Connie and Loretta Wooden.
He was so badly injured that he died within a few minutes.
The plaintiff alleges that the driver of the car was traveling at a high rate of speed and failed to use proper caution in approaching the Arlington suburb. It is alleged that the Ford skidded a distance of 75 feet after striking Mr. Chord.
The complaint further states that the family was dependent solely on the Rev. Mr. Chord's earnings. The widow, one son, Forrest, and two grandchildren, Myrtle Rose and Guy Edward Chord, survive him.
