Funeral services for Clifford Coggin, 74, Athens, will be held at 11 a.m. today, October 8, at the Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Aaron Johnson and Joe Teal officiating. Burial will be in Limestone Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Coggin died Wednesday, October 6, at his residence. He was born November 3, 1924, in Limestone County. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, longtime coach and teacher, played professional baseball with the Boston Red Sox, member of the Football Hall of Fame at the University of Southern Mississippi and a veteran of World War II and served in the Navy.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sherry Coggin.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Naomi Coggin; four sons, Perry Coggin of Columbia, Miss., Gary Coggin of Vero Beach, Fla., Terry Coggin of Houston, Miss., and Randy Malone of Oxford, Miss.; one daughter, Mrs. Shirley Stringfellow of Birmingham; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
