Born in Wahoo, Nebraska, he was dubbed Wahoo, making his debut as an outfielder for the Cincinnati Reds in 1899. He set the Major League record for triples in a career with 309, was the RBI leader three times, had 367 stolen bases and holds the single season record for most inside-the-park home runs, with 12 in 1901. He ended his career with 2,964 Hits, 1,392 Runs scored, 97 Home Runs, 1,525 Runs Batted In, and a .309 career Batting Average. He was elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1957.
