Hall of Fame Major League Baseball Player. He pitched for the Cleveland Spiders of the National League from 1894 to 1896, then switched to third base in 1897. He was sent to St. Louis in 1899 and moved to shortstop. In 1902 he joined the St. Louis Browns of the American League and remained there until 1918. Wallace batted only .268 in his 25-year career, but his brilliant fielding made him one of the highest-paid players of his era. He managed the Browns in 1911 and 1912 and the Cincinnati Reds in 1937. He was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1953.
