Son of Oscar H. and Ada Ovelia Parris. He moved to Winston County AL where he married Mae Lewis on 28 September 1919. He attended the Vaughn School of Music in Lawrenceburg TN. He served as a member of the 1936 Sacred Harp Denson Revision committee, writing the music to Sacred Harp songs "A Cross For Me" and "Eternal Praise", which were published in that revision. Additionally, he wrote the words and music to "The Better Land", which was also published in the 1936 Sacred Harp Denson Revision. He is credited with recording Sacred Harp singing in the 1930s and founded the Parris Music Company (Jasper AL) in 1932. He composed numerous gospel songs which included "Halleujah, I'm Going Home", "A Happy Meeting", and "When The Home Gates Swing Open." He joined the Stamps Quartet Music Company in 1947 and served as a district manager for 15 years. Toward the end of his life, he organized the Convention Music Company and served as the organization's president for three years. He devoted his entire life to gospel and Sacred Harp music and was a key figure in the gospel music publishing business.
