Freida Schoettmer,100, of Vinton, died peacefully on Saturday, May 11, 2002 at Virginia Gay Hospital Annex from complications of old age. Services were held Wed., May 15,at Overton-Van Steehuyse Funeral Home with Rev. Rose Blank officiating. Burial at Linwood Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Survivors include 3 son, John (Jacqueline) of Vinton, Ernie (Jean) of Apple Valley, Calif., and Robert (Kay) of San Diego, Calif.; 2 daughters, Dolores (Samuel Jr.) Lewis of Center Point, and Shirley (William) Metz of Cedar Rapids; a brother, Paul Kellenberger of Chicago, IL.
Frieda Pauline Kellenberger was born Sept. 15, 1901 at West Amana to Adolph and Clara Kellenberger. On June 12, 1930 she married Albert Schoettmer in Marengo, Iowa. In 1952 the couple moved to Vinton. Frieda was a longtime member of the Navy of Mothers. She enjoyed gardening and growing flowers and she especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. In recent years, she particularly enjoyed riding in her son, John's, golf cart. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 62 years; a son, Albert Jr.; 2 sisters, Clara and Selma; and 5 brothers; Edward, Rudolph, Conrad, Alfred, and Carl.(Info from the Central City Newsletter May 21, 2002
