Her career began in 1940 when film mogul Howard Hughes signed her to a seven-year contract after which she starred in "The Outlaw" (1943), which showcased her voluptuous figure, and ended in 1986 with her role as Ava Fontaine in the TV series "Hunter." She married Los Angeles Rams football star Bob Waterfield in 1943; the marriage lasted until 1968. Her second husband, Roger Barrett, died less than three months after their marriage. Her autobiography, "Jane Russell: My Path and My Detours," was published in 1985. She received the Women's International Center Living Legacy Award in 1989 and was named one of the 40 Most Iconic Movie Goddesses of all time in 2009 by Glamour Magazine (United Kingdom edition).
