Joseph Brewster was the 7th and youngest child of Timothy Brewster and Mary Hawkins, and was the grandson of Rev. Nathaniel Brewster and Sarah Ludlow.
He apparently was an attorney since his name is followed by Esq., but his education is unknown.
In April of 1734 he married Ruth Briscoe, (daughter of Samuel Briscoe and Ruth Smith). The couple spent their entire life in Brookhaven raising their six children which included:
•Ruth Brewster (1734-1787)
•Mary Brewster (1735-1787)
•Lt. Joseph Brewster (1735-1818)
•Asnath Brewster (1739-1761)
•Deborah Brewster (1741-1832)
•Sarah Brewster (1746-1798)
