White House Figure. He was the Chief White House Counsel during the first six months of President Bill Clinton's administration in 1993. Dying while in this White House position, his body was found in Fort Marcy Park outside Washington D.C. Although many state his death was under suspicious circumstances, his death was ruled, after five formal investigations, suicide from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Born Vincent Walker Foster, Jr., he was a childhood friend and a professional colleague of President Clinton. After high school, he attended Davidson College, graduating with a bachelor's degree in psychology in 1967 before entering Vanderbilt University Law School and then graduating the University of Arkansas School of Law in 1971. He received the highest score of his class on the bar exam. During the Vietnam War, he served in the Arkansas National Guard. He began his successful law career at Rose Law Firm in Little Rock, becoming a partner. President Clinton's wife, Hillary, joined the firm in 1979. After supporting Clinton politically for some time, he joined Clinton's political team in 1992 but with the relocation from Arkansas, he had problems adjusting to the stress of the Washington D.C. lifestyle of working long hours. Taking a toll on him, he lost weight and became depress. In retrospect, many of his colleagues recognized his depression. His name was associated with the Whitewater Scandal, which was an ill-fated late 1970s real estate investment that involved President Clinton and his wife. After a long investigation of these real estate dealings and a trial, fifteen persons were convicted of more than 40 crimes including close associates of Foster. He was married and had two sons and a daughter.
