The Reverend William Charles Poole, born April 14, 1875, in Easton, Maryland, attended Washington College in Chestertown, Marlyand. He became an ordained Methodist minister in 1900 and served churches in the Wilmington Conference (Delaware) for thirty-five years. A prolific hymn writer, he penned such hymns as "The Church by the Side of the Road," "Have You Prayed It Through," "Just When I Need Him Most," "Sunrise," and "Won't Somebody Tell Them?" Mr. Poole died on December 24, 1949, in Lewes, Delaware.
