U.S. Senator. He graduated from St. Jerome's College Canada in 1897, came to the United States, settled in Butte, Montana and became a naturalized citizen in 1900. He graduated from the law department of New York University, was admitted to the bar in 1901 and commenced to practice law in Butte, Montana. He also engaged in banking, was the Silver Bow County Attorney (1906-08) and chairman of the Montana State advisory board of the Public Works Administration (1933-34). In 1934, he was elected as a Democrat to the U.S. Senate to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Thomas J. Walsh and reelected serving until 1961. He died shortly after leaving office at age 84.
