U.S. Congressman. Born in Holmesville, Ohio, he attended College of Wooster, graduated from the law department of Ohio State University in 1925, was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice law in Piqua, Ohio. He was a member of Ohio State House of Representatives, (1933-44) and during World War II served as a Captain in the US Army. After the war, he was elected as a Republican to the Eightieth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Robert F. Jones, was reelected to the next twelve succeeding Congresses, serving (1947-73). Not a candidate for reelection, he resumed the practice of law until his death at age 78 in Washington, D.C.
