Musician. Born in Bucharest, Romania, she was a pianist renowned as an interpreter of the classical and early romantic passages. She began her career as a child prodigy at the Bucharest Conservatory, made her public debut in Paris at age 10 and graduated from the Paris Conservatoire in 1910, at age 15. She began to tour Europe, the USA and with the outbreak of World War II, she was trapped in occupied Paris, but was able to escape to Marseilles. After the war, she enjoyed her greatest successes with a busy concert and recording schedule that took her around the world. She appeared as a soloist with the foremost orchestras and was particularly noted for her performances and recordings of W.A. Mozart. She died from complications of a fall she suffered in a Brussels, Belgium, railway station.
