An impressive funeral service over the remains of the late D. Willard Fiske, who died recently at Frankfort-on-the-Main, Germany, was held in Sage chapel at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon in the presence of a large number of the faculty and students of the University and representatives citizens of the town. The Rev. Professor Babcock officiated.
Remains Borne In
The remains were met at the southeast entrance of the Sage chapel. The casket, preceded by the honorary bearers, colleagues of Professor Fiske in the University in 1878, former President Andrew D. White, Professors James Laws, J.T. Morris, T.F. Crane and J.M. Harris, and President Schurman, representing the University, Ira A. Place representing the executors, and the Hon. S.D. Halliday, representing the board of trustees and borne by the active bearers, fraternity brothers of Professor Fiske, John Senior, E.B. Fernow, A.N. Newberry, L.B. Fay, L.H. Paddock and R.D. Day, was taken to the center of the apse.
A short but impressive service, consisting of reading of the Scripture and prayer by the Rev. Professor Babcock, then was conducted. A quartet also rendered, "Lead Kindly Light" and "Abide With Me."
Service at Grave
At the conclusion of this service the body was carried to the memorial chapel by the active bearers, the honorary bearers preceding and the relatives following the casket.
The congregation remained seated while a brief burial service was conducted in the memorial chapel and the body was deposited in its last resting place.
