The Rev. Z. E. Edworthy, 71, of 801 Vogel Dr., died last night in a Charleston hospital after an extended illness. Mr. Edworthy was former general secretary of the West Virginia Council of Churches.

He was a pastor in Texas and Colorado before coming to Charleston in 1925 and was associated with the council from that time until his retirement in October, 1952. Mr. Edworthy was a member of Christ Church Methodist.

He was a first lieutenant in the Coast Guard during World War I. A native of Kansas, Mr. Edworthy was educated at Washburn college and Northwestern university.

He is survived by his wife, Cleo; two daughters, Mrs. Judy Wray of Madison, Mich., and Mrs. Norma Jane Daniels of Rochester, N. Y.; a brother, Rev. B. V. Edworthy of Plains, Mont.; and a sister, Mrs. Olah Moore of Columbia, S. D.

The body is at Wilson mortuary. The family requests that flowers be omitted.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 3 p.m. in the Wilson mortuary chapel with the Rev. Dr. Joseph C. Hoffman officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial park.
