Son of Richard and Desire Yarrington Smith, husband of Charlotte Almira L'Hommedieu and father of Florence Elvina (married Charles Eugene Terrell) and Clarence Wilbur Smith (married Emma May Beecher).
Obituary - Islip, L.I., November 15 - Richard Walter Smith, a well known resident of this place, died at his home on Cedar Avenue, Monday morning. He had been in poor health for several years. Mr. Smith was 70 years old, and was born at Lake Ronkonkoma. He had lived the greater part of his life on Long Island, at one time with his daughter, Mrs. Charles Terrell, in Park Place, Brooklyn. He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Terrell, and by a son, Major Clarence W. Smith of Islip. Funeral services will be held tomorrow morning at 10:30, at his residence, and there will be a second service at the Lake Grove M.E. Church, at 2:30 tomorrow afternoon. The Rev. Francis E. Whiteside will officiate at both services. Interment will be at Lake Grove.
