The following tribute to Betty Cook was written by her classmate Annaliese Ophelia Cook:
"Betty Cook was always nice to me from the beginning. The first time she ever talked to me was the first class I ever had. She sat right next to me with a bright smile on her face. As we started with notes, she noticed that my last name was Cook as well. That is how she started that first conversation, with a "hey, we have the same last name". That is why last week's event was terribly saddening for me. I lost a good friend, and the whole town lost a good person. After the incident, Betty's family told me to take what I wanted to remember my good friend. I decided to take her yearbook picture because it shows how she was one of us. She was just another student trying to get a good education. Along with that, it also shows that she was a part of this community of girls and her name will never be forgotten. We all love you Betty, and you will be missed forever."
