George Adam Bender, age 70, died Saturday morning at 5:45 o'clock at his home on West Seventh after nearly a year's illness. Mr. Bender's health began to fail a year ago. Six weeks ago he decided to spend the winter in California with his children living there but after his condition became worse he and Mrs. Bender returned home 10 days ago and he was bedfast until the time of his death.

Funeral services will be held at St. John's Lutheran church Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in charge of the Rev. E. H. Thomas and Deines Brothers. Burial will be in the Russell Cemetery.

Mr. Bender was born in Kratzka, Russia, February 4, 1872, the son of Henry Bender and Kathrina Bender (nee Yoost). He came to the United States at the age of 13 and made his home with an uncle. He was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth Funk on January 4, 1896, and they started farming on his farm northwest of Russell. In 1915 they moved to Russell where they have resided in their home on West Seventh ever since. To this union were born 15 children, four of whom preceded their father in death.

Besides his wife, Mr. Bender leaves the following children: Mrs. Amelia Sitz, Gorham; Mr. Henry H. Bender, Russell; Mrs. Caroline Urich, Oakley; Mrs. Rosie Wassemiller, St. Charles, MI; Mrs. Bertha Schultheiss, Bell, CA; Edward Bender, Russell; Benjamin Bender, Russell; Herman Bender, Huntington Park, CA; Karl Bender, Bell, CA; Mrs. Francis Pabitsky, St. Charles, MI; and Lawrence Bender with the U.S. Coast Guard. There are also 25 grandchildren, three great grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Adam Schneider, of WaKeeney.
