Major League Baseball Player. Born in Greensboro, North Carolina, he was a right handed pitcher making his debut at age nineteen with the Cleveland Indians on September 9, 1927. For fifteen seasons, he played with the Cleveland Indians (1927-33), Boston Red Sox (1934-37), Washington Senators in 1938, New York Yankees in 1939, Brooklyn Dodgers in 1940 and Boston Braves in 1941. In 1931, he pitched a no-hitter and was selected to the All-Star teams of 1933 and 1935. He finished with a record of 193 wins, 128 losses, 227 complete games, 17 shutouts, 13 saves, 985 strikeouts, with a 4.04 earned run average and was also a good pitcher with the bat hitting 38 home runs during his career. In February 2008, Ferrell was inducted to the Boston Red Sox Hall of Fame.
