George (Jack) Barrows, 100, of Rt. 5, Muscatine, died at 1 p.m. Saturday at Muscatine General Hospital. He had been in failing health the last two years.

The son of Charles F. and Emma (Browning) Barrows, he was born Oct. 29, 1867 at Muscatine, and had been a life resident here.

George Barrows married the former Lillie D. Libhart, June 24, 1895 at Muscatine.

He had been a riverboat captain and builder, having built the Emma B. and the Bonnie Bell, paddle-wheel, Mississippi river boats.

Survivors are one son, George R. Barrows, Las Animas, Colo.; two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Grace) Bryant, Los Angeles, Calif., and Mrs. Laura Hill, route 5, Muscatine; eight grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, one sister, and two brothers. Funeral services held at the Riley Funeral home with Rev. Chris Von Holten in charge. Burial will be at
Greenwood cemetery.
