GEORGE BISHOP DIES, FARMER
George D. Bishop, 72, a lifelong Strasburg R1 farmer, was pronounced dead on arrival from natural causes Tuesday afternoon at Community Hospital of Lancaster.
In 1980 Bishop was presented with a Century Farm designation for farming land once owned by his grandfather along Bishop Road. Bishop was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Strasburg Lodge 361, for the past 49 years, serving as Past Grand. He was a life member of the Ancient Order of Croaking Frogs and belonged to the Lanco Beagle Club and the Lancaster County Fireman's Association. Born in Strasburg Township, he was the son of the late William B. and Eva Weinhold Bishop, Jr. Eight sisters survive: Harriet Herr, Strasburg R1; Ruth S., wife of Robert G.Kilheffer, Washington Boro; Eva E. Wirth, Lancaster; Mary S., wife of Willis Wirth, Jr., Flourtown; Louise, wife of C. Wilbur Kendig, Mountville; Zelda J. Winters, Strasburg; Martha, wife of Louis D. Schafer, St. Petersburg, Fla.; and Margaret J. Smith, Ambler.
