Rites Held For F.P. Oleson, 76 Year Old Pioneer Is Buried in Madison Cemetery

Funeral services for Frank Peter Oleson, 76, who died at a Clear Lake Nursing Home Saturday evening following a long illness, were held at the Olson Funeral Chapel in Forest City at 1:30 Tuesday and at the United Methodist Church at 2. The Rev. C.H. Petterson, pastor, conducted the rites and burial was in Madison Cemetery.

Mr. Oleson, first child of Peter K. and Margaret James
Oleson, was born Aug 9, 1871 at Lyons, Clinton County, Iowa August 9, 1871. As a small child he moved with the family to a farm near Wesley and in 1882 to Algona where his mother died. In 1886 the family moved to Hayfield and in the fall of 1887 to an acreage in Madison Township, Hancock County, across the line from Forest City.

He was married March 2, 1892 to Miss Emily M. Durant, and the couple had nine children, all living. The family lived on farms in Hancock County until 1924 when they quit farming and moved to Forest City. Mr. Oleson moved to Clear Lake in 1943. He was bedfast 17 months.

Mr. Oleson was preceded in death by his wife, who died Dec. 28, 1929, and by his parents; 2 sisters, and a brother.

Surviving are 9 children: Herbert Oleson, Aberdeen, Washington; Verne Oleson, Hoquiam, Washington; Forrest Oleson, Sioux City, Iowa; Dwight Oleson, Radcliffe, Iowa; Zilpha, now Mrs. Arthur Steffensen, Buffalo Center; Ethel, now Mrs George Kabrick; and Leila, now Mrs. Lester Moretz, both of Clear Lake; and Sylvan and Roger Oleson, Forest City.

Also surviving are 2 brothers: Emory Oleson, Forest City; and Leonard Oleson; Corpus Christi, Texas: 2 sisters: Mrs. Martha Taylor, Wichita, Kansas; and Mrs. Ruby Millspaugh of San Antonio, Texas, 45 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Pall bearers were six grandsons, Cecil and Devere Steffensen, Francis and Valere Oleson, and Maynard and Delmer Moretz, all grandsons. R. T. Norvet and C. G. Webb, Dr. C. H. Potter and Hugh Patterson sang.

Mr. Oleson served as Hancock County Supervisor 8 years, and was a Director for the Forest City Cooperative Creamery Association.
