Born in Hanover, Lehigh, Pa.
Son of Isaac and and Elizabeth Lohrbach McHose. His father was a Rifleman in the War of 1812.
he was the husband of Lettica nee Weider.
His grandfather Isaac McHose came from Scotland as a young man. His family settled in the Northampton region.
His father was a bricklayer and this trade was taught to Isaac Jr. As a young man he hepled build the first anthracite furnave in Catasauqua in 1839. He made this his business for 30 years and built blast furnaces in Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey and Virginia. He was instrumental in developing the Reading Fire Brick Works. He was part owner of the land on which the Reading hospital was built and was a key figure in its development as well as the Homopathic hospital in Reading. He also developed the Reading Steam Heat Company and was the first president of the Reading Library Company. Additionlly, he was chiefly responsible for the founding of the Y.M.C.A. in Reading.
Surviving children are Ambrose A., Wilson V., Isaac Jr., and Susan, wife of Jerome Boyer.
