The son of Benjamin & Johanna Bird, he attended Harvard College with the Class of 1744, but did not graduate because he favored "New Light" theology. On March 12, 1752, he married Sarah, daughter of John Prout, and resigned his parish in East Haven in 1767.
He died of small pox.

Samuel Bird who was born at Dorchester March 27. 1724
He was ordained to ye ministry in the church of Dunstable on Merrimack River. From thence he removed to this City where he was installed Pastor of the church of White Haven Oct. 17th 1757.
He resigned the ministry Dec'r 1767
He was a Gentleman of
Integrity Piety & Patriotism.
He died May 3d 1784
