Eliza Lee Cabot was born on August 15, 1787 in Boston. She was one of thirteen children of Samuel Cabot and Sarah Barrett Cabot. After Eliza's parents died, she and her two sisters established a household. Eliza developed a group of friends. Her friends included William Ellery Channing, Henry Ware. She co-founded a Sunday school affiliated with the Federal Street Church. Eliza was an abolitionist.
In 1828, she married Charles Follen, a professor at Harvard. He died twelve years later aboard the ship, Lexington, which burnt on Long Island Sound.
Elixa wrote many poems and various other texts. She published many of her own as well as writings of her husband.
