Rev. Dr. Stanley Llewellyn Osborne was born in Clarke Township, Ontario, on January 6, 1907. He attended Providence Public School and Bowmanville High School, and graduated in Arts from Victoria University, Toronto, in 1929. He graduated in Theology from Emmanuel College in 1932. He received his Bachelor of Music Degree in 1936, Doctor of Music in 1945 and Doctor of Theology degree in 1954. Dr. Osborne served in missions in Ontario and Western Canada and was later assistant pastor at Timothy Eaton Memorial Church in Toronto. From 1941 to 1948 he was pastor of First United Church, Port Credit. From 1948 to 1968 he was principal of the Ontario Ladies' College at Whitby where his most significant accomplishment was the building of Grace Chapel which was dedicated in 1956. On his retirement in 1968, he moved to Oshawa. Dr. Osborne was an authority on Church Music and a Fellow of the Hymn Society and the Royal Canadian College of Organists. He was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Sacred Letters from Victoria University in 1971 and received an Honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from Queen's University, Kingston, in 1974. Dr. Osborne, died at Oshawa on December 7, 2000, and is buried at Guthrie Cemetery, Guthrie, Ontario.
