Die Gemeinde Mauth wurde 1811 formiert mit den Siedlungen Finsterau, Heinrichsbrunn, Hohenröhren, Mauth, Waldmühl (Holzapfelmühl) und Zwölfhäuser. Das Gemeindeedikt von 1818 wies die Siedlungen Fürstenhütte (Neuhütte) und Vierhäuser dazu. 1825 traten als weitere Ortsteile Neuhäusler und Neuhüttenmühle auf. Spätestens 1841 waren Fürstenhütte und Neuhäusler zum Ortsteil Neuhütte verschmolzen. Aus den Siedlungen Finsterau und Heinrichsbrunn wurde mit Wirkung vom 1. Januar 1900 die neue Gemeinde Finsterau abgetrennt.
Die Pfarrkirche St. Leopold wurde 1921 nach einem Brand neu errichtet. Die Ausstattung schuf Leopold Hafner.

The town of Mauth was formed in 1811 with the settlements of Finsterau, Heinrichsbrunn, Hohenröhren, Mauth, Waldmühl (Holzapfelmühl) and Zwölfhäuser. The edict of 1818 added the settlements of Fürstenhütte (Neuhütte) and Vierhäuser. 1825 added the districts of Neuhäusler and Neuhüttenmühle. Fürstenhütte and Neuhäusler were merged with the hamlet of Neuhütte not later than 1841. The settlements of Finsterau and Heinrichsbrunn were separated on 1 January 1900 to form the new church of Finsterau.
The parish church of St. Leopold was rebuilt in 1921 after a fire. The facilities were designed by Leopold Hafner.
