For decades, local legend has held that a vampire was interred in a grave located in the back of the cemetery. This burial has a high wrought iron fence, and until recent years included a gate, but this gate was removed, it is said, because local teens were becoming trapped in the enclosure.
The cemetery is out around Dalby Springs. About 15 miles South of DeKalb of FM 561.. All by itself. Hidden in a little opening in the trees. Its called Cedar Grove Cemetery. It only has about 20 tombstones dating back around mid 1800's to around 1903. The "vampire's Grave' is at the back of the cemetery and the only one fenced off. I've never seen a tombstone on The 'Vampire's Grave" and I first went out there in 1984. In the past year, I've been probably 8 times. The last time I went was within the last 6 months and all the tombstones were intact. When I was in school, the Vampire's grave had a gate on it (it's gone now) and a LONG stake that went down thru the center of the grave that everyone always tried to remove (not me) but couldn't....It's gone also. There is a sunken in spot where the stake was. I heard that the gate was removed because people were getting trapped inside the grave.
