From the Edwardsville Intelligencer on Friday, March 9, 1962, page 2:
   Herman A. Knackstedt, 86, 207 South Main St., an Edwardsville resident 58 years, died Thursday at 6 p.m. at St. Joseph Hospital, Highland, where he had been a patient 11 weeks.
   Mr. Knackstedt retired in 1937 from the old Palace store where he had been employed 27 years.
   Born Aug. 23, 1875 near Alhambra, he was the son of the late Christian and Johanna Roffmann Knackstedt. He was married to Louise Stahlhut in 1902 at St. Paul's Lutheran church, Hamel. His wife preceded him in death Sept. 19, 1943.
   Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Henry (Irene) Nagel of this city, and two sisters, Mrs. Fred (Mary) Stahlhut, Carpenter, and Mrs. Emma Korsmeyer, Alhambra. Four brothers and one sister preceded him in death.
   Mr. Knackstedt was a member of Trinity Lutheran church.
   Friends may call at the Weber funeral home after 7 p.m. Saturday until 1 p.m. Monday when the body will be taken to Trinity Lutheran church to lie in state until the services at 2 p.m. The Rev. A.H. Herpolsheimer, pastor, will officiate. Interment will be in Sunset Hill cemetery.
