Sister Helen Catherine Wagner, 82, of the Sisters of St. Francis at Oldenburg, died Saturday, July 27, 1985, in the Margaret Mary Community Hospital in Batesville.

Sister Wagner was born March 17, 1903, in Evansville, the daughter of Edward and Helena Hirsch Wagner. She entered the convent Jan. 23, 1923, and made her final vows July 26, 1928. She received a bachelor of arts from the Athenneum in Ohio.She taught at St. Leo, and St. Vincent and DePaul in Cincinnati, and at St. Vincent and DePaul in Shelbyville. She also taught at Our Lady of Sorrows in Kansas City, Mo. She was a teacher and secretary at the Sacred Heart School in Bearfield, Ohio. She served as secretary at St. Joseph School in Princeton, and as principal in Ohio at St. Bernard, St. Pius, St. Catherine and St. Aloysius in Cincinnati, and at St. Anthony in Dayton.She also served as assistant Mother General from 1962 to 1974 at Oldenburg. She retired to the Motherhouse in 1980.Funeral services will be 6:45 p.m. today in the Sisters of St. Francis Motherhouse Chapel in Oldenburg, with the Rev. Raymar Middendorf officiating. Burial will be in the Motherhouse Cemetery.Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. this evening, in the Motherhouse Chapel.Weigel Funeral Home in Batesville handled arrangements.--Greensburg Daily News (Indiana)--Monday, July 29, 1985
